"Rule-base stochastic model of B-cell receptor signaling."

Short abstract:
The rule-base modeling (see http://bionetgen.org/index.php/Main_Page) developed by Cell Signaling Team at Los Alamos Laboratories allows for analysis of regulatory pathways of thousands of reactions. These reactions are generated automatically by the software based on the typically much smaller number of rules specified by the modeler.

We use this software to analyze the stochastic model of B-cell receptor (BCR) signaling. The regulation involves mutual phosphorylation of BCRs and membrane kinases Lyn and Fyn, which activity is in turn controlled by phosphatase PAG. Due to existence of positive feedback, in a broad range of parameters the system exhibits bistability, which may enable B cell to take the Yes or No decision of proliferation and maturation into antibody producing cell.
