"Mathematical modelling of dynamics of red blood cells production."

Short abstract:
The paper of Maria Wazewska-Czyzewska and Andrzej Lasota including the model of Red Blood Cells production control was awarded a Prize of Faculty of Medical Sciences of Polish Academy of Sciences. Not only is it interesting from medical point of view. This model is unusual also in the way how it was derivated. It was not formulated and checked like many mathematical equations but it was derivated from biological assumptions. The model consist of PDE (transport equation) and nonlinear boundary condition. Its reduced version consist of DDE. The results of mathematical analysis were involved in anty-anemia therapies. For last 30 modelling blood homeostasis has been undergoing great development. There will be presented a few models, especially taking into account those of M. C. Mackey and his collaborators.
