Personal Career Development Plan
The main goal of Gabriela Lorelai Litcanu's one-year stay is the development of mathematical models of biological phenomena with applications in tumour growth and cancer therapy. Using her experience in mathematical modeling and partial differential equations, she will be responsible for the mathematical analysis, numerical simulations and comparison with the experimental data. Special attention will be given to some basic processes that occur throughout the developmental biology, at sub-cellular and cellular scale, more specifically to wave-generating processes that show a characteristic of excitability (the formation of target and spiral patterns). Mathematical relationship between different models will be studied. Modeling process and comparison between different models correspond to the main task of the activity of the Polish Team, i.e. ''Mathematical modeling and computer simulation at sub-cellular and cellular scale''.
Among the mathematical tools that will be used are the singular perturbation theory (including non-linear aspects), the theory of reaction-diffusion equations, asymptotic limits, numerical analysis, as well as computer simulations.
